My name is Violet and I am ten years old, I live with my mum and dad and my two cats in west London. This is how Share A Story came about...
The war between Ukraine and Russia had just started and I kept thinking about how scared the children must have been. One evening, my family and I were watching coverage of the war on TV and suddenly I had a thought - maybe my friends and I could do something! perhaps we could make a difference! I wasn't doing anything positive by just watching the TV.
So, I decided to take action. I found the Voices of Children charity and was so inspired by the incredible work that they do for the children in their care. I immediately knew that this charity was the one that needed our help the most.
I began to the think about something my school could do to raise money. I remember having loads of different ideas such as flower day or superhero day but then came Share A Story. I thought it could be perfect so I spoke to my Head Teacher the next day and she was very eager to get involved.
After a lot of organising and preparation, the day of the event arrived and was a huge success! All 480 children in my school received a book that day, a free book. I love reading so I was so happy to share my love of books with the rest of the school! Even if we hadn't raised money for children in Ukraine, at this point, I felt that we'd achieved something really brilliant. I saw some of the younger children at school who looked so excited when they found a book they loved.
Then came came the sale at the end of the day. Throughout that week we managed to raise £404.34.
Share a story brought smiles from my school all the way to Ukraine. I was so happy.
A few weeks later, my mum's gym, F45 contacted me saying they had seen our work on my schools website and asked if I could host an event there too one weekend. This was so successful that we ended up a second event there and I am now planning a third.
Whist all this was going on, I was in contact with the charity. They were beyond grateful and wanted to have a Zoom meeting with me to express their thanks. They even sent me a tote bag, stickers, some pens, certificates and an incredible drawing of me as a cat. They are very kind to me and they're such amazing people doing incredible jobs to help children who are suffering.
I am so so grateful towards my school and F45 Kingston for taking on board my idea and creating something so special!
Also thank you to my friends who helped me on the events. I genuinely would be still drowning in a pile of books if it weren't for you guys!
But, we don't want to stop here! We need YOUR help to raise even more money. Together, we can make a difference!!!!
